Konocti Tee by Covert Capital. A wearable tribute to the mountain that has watched Lake County, California transform through millennia of triumph, tragedy, and resilience.

Long before the first settlers laid eyes on Clear Lake, Mount Konocti—"Mountain Woman" in Pomo—stood watch over a valley of abundance. For over 14,000 years, the Pomo people—72 independent tribelets speaking at least seven languages—thrived here in harmony with the land, fishing Clear Lake's waters, hunting deer in the valleys, and weaving baskets from sedge that are still legendary today. Konocti wasn't just a volcano; it was sacred, a dormant giant shaping their world with its slopes, forests, and spiritual presence.

Then came the outsiders. In the late 1840s, Andrew Kelsey and Charles Stone arrived, turning paradise into hell. They enslaved Pomo villagers, starved them while forcing labor on meager rations—one steer a day for hundreds—raped women and children, murdered men on whims, and trafficked kids like livestock. The Pomo endured until 1849, when they rose up, killing Kelsey and Stone in a desperate bid for freedom. Retaliation was swift and savage: posses burned villages, and in 1850, U.S. Army cavalry massacred hundreds at Bloody Island on Clear Lake—one of California's darkest chapters. Konocti bore witness as treaties were broken, lands stolen, and tribes pushed to tiny rancherias like Big Valley Band's site, once a Catholic mission.

Today, Konocti Regional Park invites hikers to its trails, wildflowers bloom in spring, and Clear Lake draws boaters and anglers to its blue waters—California's largest natural freshwater lake. Pomo descendants run casinos like Konocti Vista, turning sovereignty into economic power, while debates rage to rename Kelseyville after the mountain, reclaiming the narrative from atrocity. The eyes at the base of this print stare out from the slopes, arched rainbow framing peak and valley—a nod to psychedelic visions some seekers still chase on its heights, the Sasquatches that are routinely reported to be seen here and surrounding areas throughout Mendocino and Humboldt county as well who's elusive nature landed them in the middle of the Covert Capital brand seal, and to the looming danger of this still active volcano.

Wear this tee to carry the full story: ancient harmony, brutal collision, unbreakable endurance. Perfect for Northern Cali adventures or anywhere you want to spark a real conversation. Konocti endures. So do its people.
